I earnestly believe that it is important to take into consideration indispensable issues which are likely to impact the world in the next decade. Recognition and awareness about what is happening around us is a step towards achieving a bigger goal which is to tackle the most pressing challenges of today’s time such as increasing violence and discrimination against women.
Over the years, we’ve seen several cases against women surging in society. Women have suffered not just physically but mentally and emotionally and have been the victims of ferocity in our patriarchal society through ages. For instance, our country is one of the most vulnerable countries when it comes to the innumerable crimes committed against women. The status quo, which advocates non violence and assures the well-being of women, has failed to shield women from the brunt of domestic violence and persecution and harassment of women. More than ever, women are giving an agonized cry of the brutality against them such as molestation, acid attack, abduction and child marriage. They were caught in an incessant cycle of getting beaten up which got religious and social sanction and also elevated when women’s freedom in respect of gesture, attire, diet and marriages came to be dominated by men.
It is now high time we understand that a woman should never be underestimated. Awareness programmes in favour of women’s well being should be encouraged. Women safety is a crucial concern and thus, it is important for us to learn that they should not be considered as the weaker sex. United efforts taken by us can help women to stand with dignity in this world and change the patriarchal mindsets and norms dominant in the society. No woman is any amount less than a man!
